McGuire Canvas Works history:
In the late 80's, my mother started a canvas shop out of our garage near Lake St. Clair. I grew up helping her pattern, sew and install boat covers while also learning to bend and install frames from my dad. While I've branched off to other trades over the years- graphic design, writing, carpentry, manufacturing, I've always kept a sewing shop in the basement or garage for personal projects and side jobs. In the spring of 2005, I started a full time canvas shop to serve the nearby marinas in Detroit, Grosse Pointe & St. Clair Shores Michigan. From a loft on the corner of Alter & Charlevoix, for about 6 years, I churned out marine canvas covers and enclosures, upholstery, custom car seats, awnings, bags and even a pair of blue jeans.
In 2011, I closed shop to join arguably the best fabricator in the industry- learning expert trade skills from top profesionals.
Over the years, I have acquired many skills:
Software: AutoCAD, Adobe Illustrator, DGML Pulse, Gerber, Lectra, Exel, PPT
Sewing machines: Walk foot, straight stitch, post, double, serger, long arm, overlock, chain, zig zag, bar tack, embroidery.
Cutting: Zund CNC, Gerber, Lectra, rotary.
Machines: Snap, grommet, clicker press, leather splitter, heat tape, lamination press, bladder.
I am currently employeed as a Trim Engineer at a teir one automotive supplier. I develop patterns and manufacturing processes for high volume interior trim production for automotive OEM's.
There is still a shop in my basement and I continue to make custom covers, upholstery and other projects in my spare time- between fishing and mountian biking.
